Hi there, pleased to meet you. My name is Daniel Hollands, I’m a 36 year old web developer working in Leamington Spa. This here is my website, which I use to tell the world all about me and the things that I do.

Professional and Academic Life

I’ve been interested in the Web since the mid-90s, taking an active interest in building Web sites in 1998.

After spending countless hours learning how to build for the Web as a hobby, I started to think of it as a serious career opportunity, and in 2006 started a Computing / Web Development degree at the University of Worcester, graduating three years later with First Class Honours.

Since then I have been in gainful employment as a Web developer, and can easily see it being something I want to do for the rest of my life. For more information on my professional and academic achievements, please visit My Name is Daniel.

Personal Life

I never know quite what to say in spaces like this. I could go on about how awesome I am, and all the fantastic things that I do, but that seems a bit egotistical – even for me (anyway, there will be plenty of time for that in the Blog). So I guess I could use this space to talk about what I believe in, and what I enjoy doing in my spare time.

Every night before I go to bed I spend at least an hour reading. I’m not a particularly strong reader (damn you Dyslexia), but I enjoy it as a pastime as it lets me learn a lot about the world. Most of the books I read come under the categories Popular Science, Smart Thinking and History, with the following being some of my favourites:

  • Bill Bryson’s A Short History of Nearly Everything
  • Ben Goldacre’s Bad Science
  • Richard Wiseman’s Quirkology, 59 Seconds and Paranormality
  • Richard Dawkins’ The Magic of Reality
  • and many many more

Although I have been known to read fiction from time to time (His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman being a particular favourite), and even the odd graphic novel (I like Batman as a character, but prefer the Marvel universe).

I enjoy gaming, and while I’m far from being very good at it, I think I hold my own quite well. I’m very much a PC gamer, but do own an Xbox 360 (which gets the vast majority of my non-PC gaming), a Wii (which I keep purely for the Legend of Zelda games), and a Playstation 3 (which I can’t even remember the last time I turned on). To this end I help run a gaming collective called Fight Club Monkey.
